Renovation Concept for the Shopping Center Façade
For the façade renovation concept of a shopping center in Bavaria, a lightweight steel structure was developed to serve as the load-bearing framework for the new façade design. The engineering firm conducted a comprehensive survey of the existing building to determine the requirements for the new structure and to create a detailed model. Additionally, structural calculations were performed to ensure the load-bearing capacity and safety of the steel structure. The workshop drawings include detailed specifications for the steel components and their connections, while the construction plans cover the entire renovation process up to the final installation of the façade elements.
Challenges
A key challenge of the project was the precise adaptation of the new steel structure to the existing building. The complexity of the existing structure required tailored solutions to integrate the new framework without compromising the stability of the shopping center. Moreover, planning and implementing the lightweight construction in combination with the façade design imposed high demands on material selection and workmanship precision to meet both functional and aesthetic requirements.

Project phases
Requirements Analysis
In the first phase, a detailed requirements analysis is carried out to identify the specific demands for the façade renovation and the lightweight steel structure.
Surveying with 3D Laser Scanning
In this phase, the existing building and surrounding terrain are precisely recorded using 3D laser scanning technology.
As-Built Modeling
Based on the data captured through 3D laser scanning, a digital model of the existing building is created.
Design Phase LPH 3 and Concept
In Service Phase 3, the design for the lightweight steel structure is developed. A concept is created that addresses both the structural requirements and the aesthetic goals for the façade.
Approval Planning LPH 4
In Service Phase 4, the approval planning is prepared. This phase includes reviewing and approving the design by all relevant project stakeholders.
Implementation Planning LPH 5
In the final phase, implementation planning is carried out. Detailed workshop and construction drawings are created, containing all information required for the fabrication and installation of the lightweight steel structure.
