Boiler house with water heating, Bavaria

The centerpiece of this project is an electric hot water boiler with a capacity of 40 MW, which ensures a heat supply of 140/90 °C in a closed-loop system. Water circulation is maintained by a circulation pump, and a plate heat exchanger provides efficient heat transfer. In the initial project phase, the existing infrastructure was thoroughly recorded, followed by the development of a detailed 3D model. This model served as the basis for structural calculations and the creation of construction and workshop drawings, all precisely coordinated to ensure smooth implementation and compliance with all technical requirements. Special attention was paid to optimizing the system’s energy efficiency.

Challenges

One of the greatest challenges in this project was reconciling the site’s limited space with the extensive technical requirements of the system. Meeting building regulations while simultaneously optimizing the plant for high energy efficiency required detailed planning and creative solutions. Particularly demanding was the development of a stable structural system within the existing framework and adhering to tight deadlines without compromising the quality and safety of the planning.

Project phases

01

Requirements Analysis

In the first phase, the project requirements and framework conditions were determined in detail. This included the specific performance parameters of the hot water boiler, the desired temperature range (140/90 °C), and the requirements for the closed-loop system with plate heat exchanger and circulation pump. Technical, legal, and operational requirements, as well as the client's needs, were also defined to ensure optimal planning.

02

Surveying with 3D Laser Scanning

Subsequently, a precise survey of the existing boiler house site and the surrounding area was carried out using 3D laser scanning. This method provided accurate three-dimensional data that served as the basis for further modeling and planning processes and enabled a realistic representation of the existing conditions.

03

As-Built Modeling

Based on the scanned data, a complete 3D model of the existing structures and all relevant building parts and system components was created. This model was used to review spatial conditions and optimize the planning process by providing a detailed and accurate foundation for the subsequent design phases.

04

Design Phase LPH 3 and Concept

In this phase, the basic concept of the system was developed and drafted. This included the exact placement and integration of the 40 MW hot water boiler, the layout of the loop with the plate heat exchanger, and the circulation pump. The design considered operational efficiency and safety and formed the basis for the next planning stages.

05

Approval Planning LPH 4

After the design was completed and coordinated, the approval planning phase was carried out, including all necessary technical and regulatory details. This phase was intended to finalize the planning and obtain approval from the client and relevant authorities.

06

Implementation Planning LPH 5

In the final phase, detailed workshop and construction plans were created, required for on-site project execution. These plans included precise technical drawings and specifications covering all details for the construction and operation of the boiler house. They served as the binding basis for the structural implementation and installation work.
